Police will use stop and search powers in certain areas of Edinburgh in a bid to intercept planned disorder on Bonfire Night. The force warned those suspected of planning firework-related anti-social behaviour in the Gracemount, Moredun and Niddrie areas would be searched after receiving “intelligence” of potential trouble.

Several police riot vans and public order officers have been seen on Niddrie Mains Road and Hay Drive - two areas which have seen violent disorder erupt in recent years.

With bonfire night around the corner, she urged people to build fires on the night, rather than in advance, as it acted as a warm place for a hedgehog to nest. Mrs Tibbetts has been taking part in talks to educate and spread awareness about how to help hedgehogs.
