The Department of Public Safety said one of its troopers injured while investigating another traffic crash died on Saturday.

A Texas state trooper was airlifted to a Lubbock hospital with serious injuries after he was hit by a car on duty on Sept. 17 in Ector County, the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal previously reported. At the time, the trooper's name was not released; however, the Texas DPS Officers Association has identified the trooper as Kevin Ramirez Vasquez.
