FAU has hired "name" coaches in the past with no connections to the state or school but Tom Herman and Lane Kiffin had been successful elsewhere.

Herman, in his second season, is 6-16 including a 2-8 record this year. He has three years left on his contract and is expected to be owed nearly $4 million.
