Mubi has acquired “Queer,” Luca Guadagnino’s bold and trippy adaptation of the William S. Burroughs novel that recently bowed in competition in Venice, in a major multi-territory deal. In another bold statement of intent,

Mubi has picked up rights to Luca Guadagnino’s Queer in multiple territories. The deal with Fremantle covers the UK, Ireland, Canada, Latin America, Germany, Austria, Benelux, Spain, Turkey and India and all rights excluding theatrical in Italy. The Veterans brokered the deal with Mubi, the arthouse streamer.

Queer debuted in Competition at Venice Film Festival last month. Adapted by Challengers writer Justin Kuritzkes from William S. Burroughs’ novel, the film follows an American expat in Mexico City in the 1950s, who becomes infatuated with a fellow expat and forms an intimate connection for the first time.

While the actor has a number of well-acclaimed projects under his belt, William S. Burroughs’ Queer would definitely bring a new addition to his diverse roles. In this, he plays William Lee, who gets infatuated with a younger man.

The arthouse distributor snapped up all rights across multiple territories, including UK, Germany and Canada, for Luca Guadanino's William S. Burroughs adaptation.
