Hamas’s leader in Lebanon, killed in an Israeli airstrike on Monday, was working undercover as a teacher for the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees.

Hamas' leader in Lebanon is the latest Palestinian militant group commander killed there by Israeli airstrikes in recent days, including Hezbollah's longtime chief, Hassan Nasrallah.

Israel has hit targets across Lebanon and killed 1,030 people over the past week according to the country's Health Ministry, as Lebanese-based militant group Hezbollah sustained heavy blows to its command structure including the killing of its leader, Hassan Nasrallah.

Hamas' leader in Lebanon was killed in an airstrike, the militia said Monday, as Israel over the weekend targeted Iran-backed proxies in two countries and Gaza.

"Fatah Sharif Abu al-Amine, the leader of Hamas… in Lebanon and member of the movement's leadership abroad" was killed in an airstrike on his "home in the Al-Bass camp in south Lebanon", a Hamas statement said. It said he was killed with his wife, son and daughter in an "assassination".

The U.N. Palestinian refugee agency (UNRWA) chief on Monday denied knowing that its employee Fateh Sherif Abu el-Amin was a Hamas commander in Lebanon and called on states to push back against Israeli attacks on the agency.
