Helene is now a tropical storm as it sweeps across Georgia. Metro Atlanta is contending with dangerous flooding and the ongoing threat of powerful wind gusts. Right now: Nearly 34,000 Georgia Power customers in the Atlanta area were without power as of 6am Friday morning.

Hurricane Helene wreaked havoc throughout Georgia, but the state should keep an eye on the tropics as more storms are currently out there.

Helene continues to unleash its fury across the Southeast after leaving 49 people dead in multiple states, leveling entire communities and stranding many in flood waters after the historic storm made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region Thursday night as a monstrous Category 4 hurricane with roaring 140 mph winds.

Floodwaters threaten more damage in Georgia and South Carolina as the the US South reels from the remnants of Hurricane Helene, a storm that killed at least 64 people, destroyed homes and left millions without power.
