The Dallas Mavericks almost snatched defeat out of the hands of victory on Sunday night but came away with a 121-119 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder to move back to .500 at 7-7. They were able to do it without Luka Doncic by dominating OKC on the glass 61-39, as the Thunder were missing Isaiah Hartenstein, Chet Holmgren, and Jaylin Williams.

An OKC 10-2 run in the third quarter tied it at 73 apiece by a Lu Dort 3-pointer. The Mavericks called timeout and immediately regained their lead. The Thunder exited the third quarter in a 97-92 hole. An 8-2 run by Dallas to start the fourth frame dug OKC even further into a 105-94 deficit.

In their first matchup of the season, they suffered a close 121-119 loss. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had an efficient 36 points and Jalen Williams had an efficient 27 points. Lu Dort scored 18 points. The rest of the team struggled.
