Hours after climate activist Sonam Wangchuck was released from detention, he remains in isolation at Ladakh Bhawan here, heavily guarded by a joint force of Delhi Police, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CISF.

Ladakh activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was detained by the Delhi Police, has been released from Bawana Police Station on Wednesday (October 2, 2024). A team of Delhi Police escorted him to Rajghat where he is expected to pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.

The padyatra led by Leh Apex Body which, along with the Kargil Democratic Alliance held to press the demand for statehood for Ladakh, its inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, early recruitment process along with a public service commission for Ladakh,

Sonam Wangchuk said despite facing difficulties due to detention in Delhi, they were glad their message of environmental conservation reached more people.

Sonam Wangchuk and 150 protestors from Ladakh, detained during their 'Delhi Chalo Padyatra,' are on an indefinite fast, protesting their rights being "trampled" on Gandhi Jayanti. They demand Ladakh's statehood and constitutional inclusion.

Sonam Wangchuk, a climate activist and education reformer, was released after being detained by Delhi Police for nearly 48 hours. He and 173 others were on a peaceful march to Delhi advocating for Ladakh's inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
